not be transparent, revealing, or distracting in any way;
cover your shoulders;
be clean and in good repair;
be free of wrinkles;
be durable, easy to care for, and suitable for your mission’s climate; and
be easy to pack and fit in luggage.”

Additionally, missionaries are encouraged to “Choose a garment fabric suitable for your mission’s climate” and required to wear clothing that properly covers their garments while following this handbook policy:

“Members should not modify or alter the garment to accommodate different styles of clothing.”

Recommendations

Know this: In most missions, sisters going home will dump bags of clothes at the mission office or leave them in an apartment for anyone to take. So, know that you’re likely to be able to switch up your wardrobe for free when you’re sick of it!

Length: We highly recommend only picking dresses that extend to mid-calf. While dresses that hit just above the knee may technically be fine, it is really SO much more comfortable on your mission to sit however you want and not have to worry at all about anyone seeing up your dress.

Layering: Make your outfits work with a changing climate by ensuring they’re layering-friendly (and make sure to buy the layers you’ll need). Do they work with a long sleeve and thermal leggings underneath, and/or a sweater over top?

Comfort: Of course you want to look cute and confident every day, but we beg you to prioritize comfort over style – you’ll be so much happier.

In terms of undershirts, we really love Halftee’s. Their basic style covers the garment around the top, while cutting off mid-torso to avoid needing to tuck it in (which is a real HASSLE when you’re already so overstimulated as a missionary and need to pee all the time).
